    Re: NCAA brackets released

If a team has played and defeated better, higher ranked teams, how is their schedule inferior?
    Bama non conference opponents:

    Florida A & M (8-20) RPI: 329
    Troy (7-21) RPI: 266
Seton Hall (13-18) RPI: 102, Tide lose
Iowa (11-20) RPI: 185, Tide lose
St. Peters (20-13) RPI: 92, Tide lose
    Alabama A & M (10-15) RPI: 308
    South Alabama (10-16) RPI: 276
Purdue (25-7) RPI: 12, Tide lose
Providence (15-17) RPI: 153, Tide lose
    Southeastern Lousiana (12-14) RPI: 226
Oklahoma State (19-13) RPI: 61, Tide lose
    Pepperdine (11-21) RPI: 243
    Toledo (3-28) RPI: 338
    Lipscomb (16-13) RPI: 131

    VCU non conference opponents:

    UNC Greensboro (7-24) RPI: 298
    Winthrop (11-17) RPI: 222
    Wake Forest (8-24) RPI: 260
Tennessee (19-14) RPI: 34, Rams lose
    UCLA (22-10) RPI: 44
South Florida (10-23) RPI: 154, Rams lose
    VMI (14-13) RPI: 200
Richmond (27-7) RPI: 43, Rams lose
    Tulane (10-17) RPI: 236
UAB (22-8) RPI: 31, Rams lose
    Wofford (21-12) RPI: 109
    New Hampshire (11-18) RPI: 274
    Witchita State (23-8) RPI: 60
    William & Mary (9-22) RPI: 228

Alabama non conference opponent combined record 180-236 with an average rpi of 194.4.

VCU non conference opponent combined record 214-217 with an average rpi of 153.3.

    Next fallacy please.

    Re: NCAA brackets released

    SEC West Average RPI: 148.3
    Colonial Average RPI: 134.7

SEC has 7 teams in the RPI top 100 (5 of the 7 are in the East)
Colonial has 6 teams in the RPI top 100

SEC Record Against RPI Top 50 49-76 (38 of these wins come from the East)
Colonial Record Against RPI Top 50 21-65

Alabama's not playing harder competition than VCU.

Alabama is not in the tournament, get over it. Whether it is football or basketball Bama should be in everything just because their Bama. Well we are going to give you five months head start on why Bama's baseball team will not win NCAA Baseball Title and you can fill in the blank on who's to blame. Roll Tide to the NIT. Maybe they can at least make the final four in that. Play somebody next year and the argument goes away.

Alabama's not playing harder competition than VCU.
Alabama played 8 games v. SECEast and 8 games v. SECWest.
Alabama was also 5-3 v. the SEC East with wins over UK, UT, and UGA x2.

The SEC is clearly, clearly superior to the CAA.

I like how you only did the RPI average for the West, Bama played as many teams from the East as they did the West.

If you cant provide an argument to refute me, then your posts are worthless.

We are actually discussing facts and figures, not your own personal jealousy of Alabama.

a guy who has took shots at Bama all year even agreed that a couple teams getting in over Alabama was ridiculous.

Indeed so. I saw that seeding and was wondering what the selection committee was basing their judgement on, because it sure wasn't the fact that UK just laid the whoopin' on Florida by what, 16 points?

Right, thanks for showing that even with a higher conference rpi the Tide played a worse schedule.

    Re: NCAA brackets released

153-Bama combined RPI OOC and SEC

146-VCU combined RPI OOC and CAA

So the difference is practically negligible

So when the SOS is that close, whats the most logical indicator to use?

    How bout WINS?

Both teams have bad losses, four a piece.
One team has beaten top 50 opponents 50% of the time, splitting with the best teams on their schedule
The other has lost to the best teams 57% of the time and has NO wins over the RPI Top 10.

Shouldnt wins be the most important criteria??

Alabama's best win is RPI 6 Kentucky. (UK has NINE wins over RPI top 50 and FOUR over RPI Top 25 (8x2, 9, 17, 27, 33, 36, 48)
VCU's is 20 GMU. (who has only THREE wins v. RPI Top 50 and ONE win over top 25 (20, 35, 48).

Beating UK should count for at least 2x as much as beating GMU.

Bama's best road win is at 33 RPI UT (a team with wins over Pitt, Nova, Vandy x2, etc..)
VCU's is 20 RPI ODU (a team with wins over....George Mason? Xavier? doesnt stack up to UTs wins)

(let's look at those two teams, UT and ODU. Both are 9 seeds. ODU has ZERO wins over top 20 RPI and six wins over top 50 RPI (24, 26, 42, 43, 48).
UT has EIGHT wins over RPI top 50 and a win over RPI Top 10 (10, 27, 28, 37, 44, 48, 49). ODU has a good record against top 50 (6-4), better than UT (8-8), but UT has much better wins. )

Theres no point in continuing this, I truly believe (as do almost EVERY big time college analyst and prognosticators out there) that Alabama deserved to be in over UAB and VCU both. It basically boils down your opinion vs. the opinion of the biggest college coaches, analysts, etc..

    Re: NCAA brackets released

Florida still deserved a higher seed than Kentucky looking at their body of work.
